What foods contain NR and how much would you need to eat?

What foods contain NR and how much would you need to eat?

I'd like to tell you what you'd need to eat to get 300mg of NR, which is what one capsule of your LifeXpan NR PURO contains.

To obtain 300 mg of Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) through food alone, you'd need to consume impractical amounts, since the concentration of NR in food is extremely low.

But to give you some ideas, we've put together this article.

First things first... What are the benefits of raising levels in the body?

  • Anti-ageing: the greatest advantages relate to the activation of sirtuins in the body. Resveratrol has been studied for this, but NR now appears to be even more effective at doing so.
  • Skin benefits: topical application of nicotinamide has been found to benefit acne, reduce redness, and improve skin elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles. As shown in these reference studies (5) (6). For acne vulgaris, one study even found it comparable to clindamycin, a popular prescription medication (7).
  • Hearing loss: by activating the SIRT3 pathway, a UNC study found it helped protect rodents against noise-induced hearing loss (8).
  • Diabetes and obesity – Insulin levels and pro-inflammatory markers (9).
  • Energy: in animals, it has been shown to improve mitochondrial function, which supports energy production. One study in mice even claimed some reversal of skeletal muscle ageing (10).

    Food Sources and Amounts Needed:

What science says you'd need to eat to obtain 300mg from food.

    Cow's milk:

Contains approximately 0.23 mg of NR per 240 ml (8 fl oz). To reach 300 mg of NR, you'd need to drink more than 1,300 glasses of cow's milk (Great Performers Academy).

nr en la levadura de cerveza

    Brewer's yeast:

Although it's recognised that brewer's yeast contains NR, there's no exact data on its concentration. However, its NR content is estimated to be very low and would be insufficient to reach 300 mg through regular consumption (Superfoodly) (mindbodygreen).

NR en el pescado y salmón

    Fish (e.g. tuna, salmon):

Fish contains NAD+ precursors, but the amounts of NR are negligible compared with the supplemental doses required.

alimentos con nr en el pollo

    Chicken:

It also contains NAD+ precursors, but again in very small amounts compared with supplement doses.

alimentos con nr en los vegetales

    Green vegetables (e.g. peas, asparagus):

Although they contain NAD+, the amount is much lower than what can be obtained from supplements (Great Performers Academy).

So, what's left for us to do?

To obtain 300 mg of NR through diet alone, you'd need to consume impractical amounts of NR-containing foods. For this reason, NR supplements are the most effective and practical option for reaching the levels needed for the benefits observed in clinical studies.

That's why we've created a product that contains it in a PURE, natural form.

What is Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) and How Does It Relate to Vitamins?

Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) is a form of vitamin B3, also known as niacin. This compound is found in small amounts in foods such as milk, yeast and some vegetables. NR is a precursor to NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a vital coenzyme involved in many cellular functions, including energy production and DNA repair.

Clinical Studies on the Benefits of Nicotinamide Riboside (NR)

    1. Human Study on the Efficacy and Safety of NR: A study published in Nature Communications and led by Charles Brenner, PhD, showed that oral administration of NR at doses of 100 mg, 300 mg and 1,000 mg significantly increased NAD+ metabolism in humans without serious side effects. This clinical trial, which included six healthy men and six healthy women, showed that NR can safely increase NAD+ levels and its metabolites. This increase in NAD+ metabolism is essential for cellular energy and protection against DNA damage and oxidative stress (Carver Med).

    2. Study on NR Supplementation and Metabolic Health: Another study, also published in Nature, investigated the effects of NR supplementation on human metabolism. The results showed that NR supplementation not only increases NAD+ levels but also improves mitochondrial function and metabolic health. This study suggests that NR could be an effective tool for combating age-related conditions and improving overall health by maintaining optimal NAD+ levels (Nature).
